As like a fair amount of EJ251 foresters my head gaskets are starting to go.... making me think, hell why not just swap engines? I've been looking at different smaller (<2.6 turbo) cummins, perkins, and kubota turbocharged diesels for a possible swap. I know the head room for something like that is gonna be a squeeze, i was wondering if anyone has had experience swapping a larger sized engine is a crammed space? I have a manual 2001 forester L...... any help/tips would be great!! :)

Do it, but just think, there IS a subaru diesel engine and there is a company (s) that import them into the states.

Well you won't be able to pass any sort of emissions inspection.
You'll also have to custom fab absolutely everything.
