Default 2014 Forester Dog Guard

Haven't gotten my Forester yet, still waiting on delivery, but started looking for a good Dog Guard. I am reading bad things about the one that Subaru sells.... Anyone have any to recommend?

Can you link some of these reviews? From my searches, there don't seem to be any comments here on the forum related to the 2014 OEM guard. Am I missing something?

I haven't read anything bad about it except the install requires a little drilling. There are lame suction cup ones around; we try to keep our pooches on the 2nd row seat since the rear is a crumple zone.

Rear is no longer a crumple zone on the 2014 as the Subaru Ring Reinforcement is extended to the cargo area. It should hold up quite well, I hope. Subaru | Boron Extrication

I've honestly not seen in North America much in the way of vehicle specific dog barriers, they tend to be pressure fit universal models.

Thanks for posting those reviews.

I have the OEM Compartment separator and it seems fine to me. The only nitpick I have is that the hole for the middle seatbelt is way bigger than it needs to be, but it hasn't adversely effected me.

It was easy to install myself. The only tip I would give here is that it didn't seem like the little bumpers would slot into the indentations on the sides of the car, because my back seats were all the way reclined, pushing the top part of the apparatus backwards. When I noticed this I was really pissed off, thinking that with it installed I wouldn't be able to fully recline the back seats. But after inclining the seats and installing the whole thing, I was indeed able to recline fully.

It isn't as easy to set up and take down as I was hoping for, I wouldn't want to do it every week, but it's probably only a 10-15 minute process once you've been through it one time.

And it seems very secure, and it doesn't prevent the use of the side cargo nets if you have those, which is another thing I was worried about.

I would like to find a guard that I can take in and out easily....don't want it installed unless I am taking the dog somewhere.

Arex:

Does the dog guard install into the position for the cargo cover? Does it interfere with using the cargo cover at the same time?

Thanks

Any more folks with the dog divider? I just got a 2014 XT last night and looking to make my first purchase. I am also only able to go off of the not so great amazon.com reviews on this. Anymore feedback?

Default 2014 Dog Barrier safe with Moon roof?

Has anyone purchased the 2014 OEM dog barrier? MY dealer is telling me there isn't one compatible with my car since it has the moon roof. Any truth to that? I am also tempted to just pay 40 bucks for a universal version, anyone try a universal divider on there forester? Wondering how it will interfere with the airbags.

I think you're Salesman is dumb.
I'm pretty sure that every time I built a Limited on Subaru.com the dog barrier was an available option.
If I were at a real computer I would verify. Here is another thread :

Salesman may be going off past experience with older models. Previous generation Foresters required two different version, one with moon roof and one with out. They were not interchangeable due to the profile of the roof/headliner as a result of the space needed for the glass to retract into and the mounting. The moon roof version mounted at the moon roof opening at the top, the non-moon roof version mounted via a bracket back by the top of the hatch.

It could be that with the SJ gen and the quest to consolidate parts that Subaru made one that fits both with and without the moon roof and the salesman is no longer up to date on the compartment separator fitments.

Here is the install PDF for the '14+ compartment separator F551SSG200
