Default 09 forester side cargo net. How to install?

hi guys,

I bought side cargo net for my brand new forester. Ordered at subarupartsmall. Now that it's here, the instructions says I have to drill holes in the back of the car to install hooks. It says there's suppose to be a clear area where the holes should be drilled, but there's no such thing. What should I do?

Look for a dimpled or untextured area it says.. looks like pictures from an earlier version but it should be close

Do the '09s not have built-in anchors for these to attach to? I thought they added those to all Foresters in '06 or '07.

Yeah mines got hooks all over the place back there, those instructions are old. I wouldn't be surprised if it just uses the existing hooks.. now that you mention it ..

I installed the side net kit a couple weeks ago... It was pretty easy. Follow the instructions posted by TC2000. A magnified glass made finding the "dimpled, untextured area" much easier; they are pretty small - roughly in the area shown on the instructions. The plastic drills quick so go slow, a hand drill (non powered) worked well. Be sure to use the correct size drill bit size listed on the instructions.

I ended up putting it on the drivers side so I could put rechargeable items in the net and have handy access to the power outlet.

I'm confused about how to drill the holes. It says I need 1/2"(13mm) drill bit and 1/4"(6mm) drill bit, but the picture only shows drilling with 1/4". When do I use 1/2" drill? I could not push the mushroom anchor into panel with this small hole. Can someone input a bit more detail? Thanks a lot!

I think the 1/4 inch is just for a pilot hole. I used a 1/2 in. to drill the final hole. The net hanger fit snug in the hole. Make sure the bit is not larger than specified.

I just did mine here is a photo

They are easier to see from a side angle, not from directly on.

This is the final install of all 4

1/2 inch drill bit!?!? who the heck even owns one that large? That thing is a monster. I am hoping to find a friend that has one so i don't have to go buy one.

So much for installing today.
