Default Waterless Car Wash?!?!???

Have you guys seen this stuff? It comes in a spray bottle, you spray on a mist, let sit for a few seconds, then use a microfiber towel to wipe off and buff to a shine. I saw it at the autoparts store, and a guy I work with uses it on his Infinity, but to me it is just WRONG! The dirt will scratch the paint....right?? Is this stuff a con or does it actually work?

My parents had that stuff and I tried it on my car. It really brought out the shine, but I wouldn't use it if the car was really dirty. Not sure if it's worth the price though. I'de still rather give it a good wash by hand and a wax on the odd ocassion.

I'd have to agree. Using the soap and water would be a much safer approach, especially on a dirty car. That way the dirt has a much better chance of floating away in the suds. Detailing spray is probably very similar to the water-less car wash. I've been successful at spraying the car down with the detail spray (when it's dusty) and that produces a great shine w/o all the effort of breaking out the hose, etc. But of course, you can't beat a good hand wash and wax :-)

I agree with you guys, as a touch up or detailing tool, OK, but to preserve the paint you need to wash off the dirt in the mildest possible way.

I would never use that stuff, have fun washing your car the normal way with soap and water. :)

Possible you are referring to "Dri-Wash 'n Guard". If so it has been on the market since sometime in the 80s. I tried it on my Mazda truck of of the 80s though always worried about what was happening to the paint as the big thing in Winter & Spring time was simply spray it & use the cloth to wipe it off, but where the grit went I do not know.

Fortunately I sold the 2 wheel drive Mazda for a 4X4 Mazda a few yrs later & never used the above since. I probably have something like four 32 oz containers of the above & four of the pump containers that go with them. Still sitting in my garage. Our m/c shop bought something like eight of the above & still these four left over. Like myself others to wondered were the filth went. Reason no one else bought the said four from us.

Yes my preference is to wash my vehicles like most others do & whatever polish one prefers & uses.

Yup, thats the stuff the guy I work with uses and swears by. He has some for sell.... $25.00 for a 16oz pump bottle thing. I almost laughed out loud at the price.

Then according to this chap with the dinky 16oz pump container, I must have next to a fortune in my hands with four proper containers of 32 oz each plus four empty pump containers AND four full ones of the 16 oz pump machines-----they tend to plug & need some good needle work? Possibly enough for me to start dickering for an FXT--------for I can also dream.

Talking Maguires Quick Detail.....

....I believe it's called, works great. Let's say a couple days after you wash and dry your ride, she's all dusty/dirty - with this stuff all you need to do is spray it on, then wipe it off - and you've restored your shine as if you've just finished washing it. I also use this on my BMW motorcycle with great results.

Is there an ingredient list on the bottle? It could be water for all you know... wouldn't that cause the dirt to wipe off with a towel, too? I wouldn't trust it for $25!

Maybe I have "Bought" into the company line, but by first spraying off excess and loose surface dust/dirt/road crap/bug juice, then using a very soapy wash mitt that allows dirt to be suspended then again sprayed off, seems the only way to clean a painted surface. If you are wiping off the dirt at the same time you are polishing the surface, those dirt particles can scratch. I know dark paint colors, like royal blue, black, dark emerald green and the like, scratches show up 100X more than on light paint.

What color was your BMW?

Okay, I have the bottle here.. It's called Meguiar's Quik Detailer MIST & WIPE.From the back label -"keeps a waxed car looking "just waxed". " Use QUIK DETAILER right after a rainstorm, dust storm or any other condition that ruins your "just waxed" appearance. "The safe, high lubricity formula lifts off dirt and grime without scratching while enhancing gloss and protection". So that's it in a nutshell, the stuff works good and I assure you it's not just water. My BMW is black.
