WURTH makes a product for this exact purpose. I don't recall the name but a local dealer might have some info for you.

Not exactly a DIY solution, unless you count picking up the phone and scheduling an appointment as "DIY":

Did wonders for a company vehicle that got completely stunk-up with sweaty bodies.

Ammonia.

I shampooed the seats, carpets, and cleaned the windows, and cleaned the dash down with Windex.

Once that was done, before putting the car to bed for the night...Take a couple 20 oz pop bottle caps, pour in straight ammonia. Set one on the dash and one in the rear cargo compartment. Let is sit over night.

In the morning, WARNING, the ammonia will be strong!! Don't get in the car!

Set your heater to recirc, and turn on the ACC...let the fan blow the ammonia around the car (that takes care of the heat ducts) for a few minutes (10 or so)...then air out your car thoroughly.

Change your in cabin air filter if you have one, and do a final wipe down.

If the smell persists, repeat the ammonia treatment till it's gone.

4thstroke, I work with ozone quite a bit, I think that letting it run with the car sealed up as good as possible to let the ozone "soak in" would be a good possibility. Why did you have the AC cranking when you applied ozone?
I figured if the AC was cranked or recirc. that It would really get the whole interior, including the vents. I should give it another shot and let it just sit in the car with the car turned off to let it soak into the interior. Perhaps with some annomia like DoubleD suggested.

Theres a little aerosol can call Ozium (white/purple) I believe, it did wonders for my FXT interior. I'll find the can tomorrow and make sure of the spelling/name.

Well I am 3 days into my trial run of the microban product. With the single application the car doesn't smell like cigarettes. We'll see if it holds up for over a week. No other fix I tried lasted more than a day or so. The car just smells fresh, not a heavy perfume smell.

Mine was really bad ... I basicly removed everything , pressure washed everything with Meguiras General cleaner , then used Mcguiars car odor eliminator ...Not a hint of smoke smell anymore ...

I bought my FXT used from a dealer, that seemed to be a past smokers car.

What helped me tremendously, was to get the seats and floors shampooed and cleaned two different time by two different detailers. I didn't choose two different dealers on purpose... But I think doing the seats helped the most for me.

Just wanted to let you guys know that a combination of spraying the interior with Microban and using an ozone generator has really helped a lot, now the only time I smell cigarette smoke is when I turn the fan on high (smoke smell is still imbeded in the fan ducts)
