I'm in the same boat. When I test drove it, it was the first thing I noticed when I got in. Asked the slaes rep and he says, "no, Im sensative to that smell, its the orange glo, they really used a lot of it, I know because I use it at home."

Moms nose says otherwise, and you know theres no arguing with them... they seem to know everything!

I tried a couple different methods, air freshner, driving with windows down the whole time, and I used an o-zone enrichment machine in there that Ive used before that worked really well, but not this time.

Since you are Superman, just fly around the earth a few thousand times, reverse the orbit, make time go backwards to a time before it was smoked in, then zip down to your future car and slap those smokers silly before they have a chance to smoke in it. Then in 2008 it'll have no smokey smell.

See Superman: The Movie (1978) for reference...

But seriously, I'll tell you what has worked for me - my dad had a 1998 Chevy truck...he smoked a whole lot, 2-3 packs/day...in the truck for 9 years. It got passed on to me in 2006 and it WREAKED! Vacuum, armor all, and PURPLE POWER diluted for carpet took care of the smell after 3 carpet cleanings. That included the seats, headliner, and all interior carpet. When I have passengers I often ask them if they smell smoke and they usually say NO.

I went ahead and tried the product called "Microban" it is used to disinfect carpets, upholstry etc. after sewage back up into homes, flood damage etc. All you have to do is just spray it on the fabric and leave it alone. So far it smells fresh and great in the Forester, I'll keep you guys posted as to its long term effectiveness.

when we got our miata the previous owner smoked in it. she also left the hardtop on permanantly so the car never aired out. we used this stuff that is like a bug fogger. you activate the can and shut the car with the windows up while it spews this fog into the cabin. it worked pretty well, but i don't know what it is called and we discarded the can a while ago. call a local upholstery shop (every city has one) and see what they recommend or could sell you

Where did you buy the Microband from? I have never heard of it.

I had been given it from a buddy who's dad worked for an upholstery cleaning company for a couch I had who's previous owners LOVED CATS. I had sold the couch before I used the stuff, so I have had this new bottle in my garage for 3 years. I had forgotten I had the stuff, I know you can order it online, just do a google search for Microban Disinfectant and you'll find some online stores that have it. I'm not saying to run out and buy it yet, but from the reviews of the stuff I am very hopeful, I will let you guys know how things are smelling in a couple of days.

If this doesn't work I will try my ozone generator that I have on my aquarium. I'll just pump the thing full of ozone overnight and see if that helps.

I tried the ozone generator. I had the AC cranked full blast for over and hour, with it on the highest settings. The ozone smell lasted for quit a while. My initial reaction was "wow, it worked!" Then as time went on, the ozone smell faded and now I still have the stale cig. smell. My vanilla air freshner is now completely dead after only a week!

Its a strange world inside my car.

I'll just may order the Microban, if its not much, its worth a shot. If its capable of handling a sewage backup, cig. smoke should be a walk in the park for it.

EDIT* after some reading... it protects against "herpes simplex - genital herpes"... strange...

I had a 96 outback that stunk of smoke when I got it. I used a hand held shampooer to do the headliner, seats, and carpet. I took the seats out of the car to do the carpet too. In the end the thing smelled and looked new. I think I used so Oxyclean in the shampooer. The only time I could ever smell smoke after that was on hot days with the fan blowing hard.

4thstroke, I work with ozone quite a bit, I think that letting it run with the car sealed up as good as possible to let the ozone "soak in" would be a good possibility. Why did you have the AC cranking when you applied ozone?

Products on the market containing Microban can't be compared with Bioni technology. Microban is a registered pesticide made by the Microban Products Company in the US. Its primary ingredient is a chemical called triclosan, which, in its liquid form, has been used as a disinfectant in hospitals for over 25 years. This is old and dangerous technology as you can see by several glass actions
happening right now in the US. It is a farce that products are promoted in Australia as health benefits.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will not allow Microban Products Company, or any of its customers, to make claims regarding health benefits, such as protection from germs or disease prevention. Why? Because there is no specific evidence that any of the products treated with Microban are effective in preventing the spread of bacteria or disease.

Not only have experts said that the benefits of Microban are questionable, but many are also concerned that the wide-spread use of these substances may cause a major public health problem. Researchers are concerned that repeated use of products containing triclosan could be breeding resistant bacteria, or “superbugs.” A 1998 Tufts University study showed that over-exposure created five different triclosan-resistant strains of E. coli.

Please compare the VOC content in the paints you want to use with Bioni. We send you a complete test report done by the largest independent European test institute. Please contact us.
There are plenty of environmentally friendly wall coatings on the market, but there is only one which has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, and that's Bioni.

So basically that article is stating the same reasons to not use microban as is stated for the misuse of antibiotics.
Kind of a biased article though don't you think?

I dunno?
I just went searching for microban disinfectant via Google - Australia and that is one that came up, I'm no medical person.
