I picked up the Meguiars stuff this afternoon. I didn't see if it said anything about polish on the package, but I would think that wax != polish. I'll double check it before busting it out. If it has any abrasive in it I have plenty of other vehicles that need the polish.

Huh?Well open mouth insert foot. I guess it's good I've never owned a new car. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer a good carnuba paste wax ie Mothers. Given past advice take this how you like.

Default Paste Wax

My first wax on my '09 was with canauba as I used on my '01. It just does not last. After 2 rainstorms, no more beading and the water spots due to the rain were all over the car.

Picked up the Turtle Wax Ice (I know "Turtle Wax", but cut these guys some slack, they've been making car care stuff for decades). Ice is tagged as a "polish" but there are no abrasives - it is a clear liquid. It simply is not a traditional wax, but a combination of silicone polymers (like NuFinish or Zymol). Goes on easy, even over the plastic, and leaves no white residue. You can "wax" the whole car in 20 minutes. The shine is good and it lasts. It's been hit with three rainstorms and again today, the water just beaded up and blew off the car with no stains.

I agree, it may not protect as good as a quality wax, but if it is easy to use, I'm most likely to keep it up.

There is a ICE polish that Turtle Wax calls a Liquid Clay Bar. I haven't found any of this stuff here in Canada, but if anyone tries this stuff out, I'd love to read a review. You are supposed to rub this stuff into areas that have light scratches or swirls and it purports to smooth them right out like a clay bar would and leave some polymer protection behind.

There are lots of products to choose from. I used Turtle Wax since my first car in '69, a red VW bug! I recently changed to a better product, Mother's California Gold Carnauba cleaner wax. I use this to apply it Professional 3" Random Orbital - Orbitals & Polishing Tools - Polishing - Car Care - Griot's Garage Using a power applicator insures the wax does its job of cleaning the paint/clearcoat.

BTW, I still use Turtle Wax, Zip Wax car wash. It spots less than other brands that I've tried.

Well, i picked up my 09' Forester 2.5X Premium on Friday and i put 285 miles on it already! Great little SUV!

Today i took the time to clay the whole car (Meguiars clay kit), followed by some 3M paint cleaner. Then topped it off with a coat of Meguiars NXT tech wax 2.0. Now the paint is buttery smooth and very glossy. Prior to claying the paint surface did feel kind of rough, it wasn't too bad though...Now i'll have to see how long this newer version of NXT holds up. A lot of people swear by this stuff. I'll report back after a few weeks.

+1. There is no magic answer. Cleaners are one thing but every detailer I've ever gone to used straight carnauba wax after buffing.

I'm a slacker and haven't waxed my car yet. The longer I wait the more time I'll need to put into it. I did wash it again today and while doing so I noticed some pretty gnarly scratches in weird places. Maybe from manufacturing? One example is all along the top of the windshield.

I'll see if they "buff out".

Default Scratches or Adhesive?

I had what you describe around the sunroof, both across the front near the windshield and near the back. I think they use tape to cover up the sunroof in transit and when they remove that, it leaves a line of adhesive that looks like a scratch.

I had a few of those lines on the roof of the car also and a long one that when across the top of the hatch. Came off easily when i clayed the car. Should come off just as easy with a paint cleaner.

Ahh good. I rubbed hard on one of the scratches with a microfiber towel the first time I noticed it and it started to come off. Glad to hear it's no biggie.

Dammit, didn't wax yet and it started to rain tonight. Like I said, the more I slack, the more work it's gonna be when I get around to it.
