Michelin Primacy MXV4

Will be getting a set Monday or Tuesday at my local Discount Tire...provided the store will match the DTD price, which is $50 lower for the set of 4. Otherwise I'll order from DTD and have DT mount and balance them.

Michelin currently has a $70 rebate, so that helped my tire decision somewhat.

Will be getting 225/60/16 H rated for the Outback. Will update this thread with initial impressions of the tires. Can not wait to ditch the set currently on it.

I was planning on getting Nokian WRG2 for the lovely Chicago weather. You know: Almost Winter, Winter, Why Is It Still Winter?!, and More Road Construction!

But these are gonna be about $100 less overall, and right now that is enough to make a difference. I'm hoping they will handle the snow/slush/ice decently.

These are not "great" tires, these are "economy" tires. You will significantly sacrifice handling capabilities (especially in snow) - compared to Pilot Exalto, for example - for slightly better fuel economy (and larger price tag).

Economy? Do you mean low rolling resistance or cheap? Because they are rather spendy. And they seem to be rated #1 in their class by both TireRack and Consumer Reports.

Ok, my mistake - somehow I thought it was about "Energy" instead of Primacy. But the Primacy is still just a grand-touring tire - that is, it's not supposed to have expectional grip or sharp handling, and it's "best" only among other tires designed for granny-style daily driving. To each his own though.

Well, a 2003 isn't exactly sporty....but I concede it is a comfort rather than performance tire. This car came with Potenza G009's on it from the previous owner, which I have really disliked. I was initially planning on getting Goodyear TripleTreads, but in the 3 years since I had a set of them they seem to be suffering from some quality control issues based on reviews.

I think the Primacy would be a better fit for my father-in-law's Lexus than my OB, but I think they will serve my current needs, which are primarily interstate trips at this time.

Got my new tires today. Store did not match the DTD price, but came close enough for me to not hassle with having tires shipped to my apartment complex and having them installed later.

In and out in an hour.

In the November 2010 issue of Consumer Reports, the Michelin Primacy MXV4 is the only tire rated best in all three categories:
1. Best all-weather performance.
2. Best balance of three-season performance and long tread life.
3. Best balance of good grip and fuel efficiency.

The Michelin Pilot Exalto and the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred are listed in Category 1 but do not appear in Category 2 or 3.

I changed to Primacy MXV4 at 3,500 miles on my Forester, and now have almost 25,000 miles on them. They are the most expensive tire, but also the quietest and longest wearing. I love them.

These replaced a pair of about 50% worn Potenza G009 in the aforementioned size and speed rating. I was not a fan of the G009 at all, but have heard that it's replacement the Potenza G019 corrected some of its' flaws: noise and slush traction.

Initial impression: Wow these things are quiet! I knew the Potenzas were droning more as they wore down, but not this much. I can now hear my loose exhaust shield rattling ALL the time instead of only as slow speeds. Yay or darn, not sure yet. (Heat shields with less fortitude than a beer can, it's what makes a Subaru a Subaru.) But these tires are very quiet on asphalt and only have a mild high pitch whine on concrete during braking (such as an off ramp). They seem to handle very calmly, but I only have 100 miles on them thusfar. They seem to be well balanced, 1 wheel needed two weights and 3 only needed one. Will be getting an alignment soon as I want them to wear well.

Hasn't rained yet so no input there. Will update this thread during the winter to see how they do in Chicago's snow/slush/ice/mix.

It is not clear what tires you replaced the Potenza G009 with.
Was it Potenza G019, or Primacy MXV4?

Michelin Primacy MXV4 - Initial thoughts

I just put the Michelin Primacy MXV4 on my 06 XT, and I'm not sure I like them. They are at 35PSI from Discount Tire, but I think they need more pressure.
Too much sidewall give makes the car seem to balloon some on quick maneuvers. I'll be returning them to DT if they don't feel better with more pressure. The ride is smooth and quiet, but they seem to scream when corning hard, and the outside front slides, but it may be due to the brand new on the tires.
