So you can throw a supercharger on an NA motor, but you can't put a turbocharger on an NA?

You can put either one on an NA engine... we added a turbo kit on my son's '03 X. You can read our installation write up starting here. Of course most members would recommend not doing this.

I am curious how much either one would RELIABLY be able to provide power wise.

Then again, I also kinda wanna build an N/A FSTi too....

It all depends on how well the installation is done, has proper engine management & the maximum boost is kept at the recommended level.

The original turbo kit was installed in our '03 X in '05 at 6K miles. It has over 30K miles on it now & it's been trouble free.

Wait.....your '03 only had 6k on it 2 years later in '05? (0_o)

Last post here on our '03 X... it feels like we're cluttering up Josh's Member Journal. We can continue this discussion here, if you have any more questions.

The mileage on Forester is correct, as is the 30K miles it has on it now. As to the boost pressure. We're running a bit over 5 psi, with a maximum boost of 6 psi.

Shouldn't that be a "low compression", if the engine is going to be used with forced induction?

Well normally yes, but this way I can get more power while maintaining low boost figures. Similar to how your AVO turbo only needs to put out ~5 PSI for a very respectable boost in power.

I'll be building a block to have around 10:1 compression that will take about 7 to 9psi of boost. Basically I'll have a semi built STI block but will retain similar characteristics of the stock EJ251.

The basic build breakdown:

EJ253 heads with EGT deleted and AVCS disconnected
EJ255 block, stock bore
Manley forged pistons
STI crank and rods
ACL bearings
Delta 1500 grind cams

Raptor V supercharger
FXT stock intercooler w/ stock BPV
Custom intake piping

Walbro 255

Tuning is as of yet undecided.

I've got a whole mess of parts in the garage, engine parts everywhere. I'll update on this project with pictures soon now that I let the cat out of the bag.

Okay, so you're saying with the NA 10:1 compression ratio & not going with the XT 8.4:1 compression ratio.

If your engine can handle the boost with the higher compression ratio, you'll be making some some serious power with lower boost!

That's the plan, who knows if it will pan out or if it will be a huge failure. My plan is to go slow, learn, and at the end of the day have fun doing it.

Merry Christmas to me:



Scored an entire JDM Forester Cross Sports front clip. They literally chopped it of and is being shipped on a pallet from CA.



Next up will be installing all the goodies. Though I will likely keep my retrofit headlights over those JDM HIDs, so they will be up for sale very soon.

Oh holy crap....you're right.....I hate you even more now!

I have a recommendation for a body shop....they do great work but aren't what I would call cheap by any means....
