sleeperxt's work in progress

"Current status" :)

Well I figured I should start a diary of my constant modding. So Ill just save some space for when I have time to fill it in.

The beginning:
2006 Subaru Forester XT, Limited, 5 speed manual transmission, All Weather package
color: Steel gray metallic (my favorite!)
-Stock everything. Immaculate @ 3k miles

Signing the papers to take our baby home. :)

And here is the happy new driver of our new baby. Yup, the forester was purchased for my wife.

The first mod @ 6k, was an OEM steering column boost gauge. I installed it on the right hand side so I could keep track of the boost and rpm more easily.

The next mod @ roughly 9k, was a Bosal shorty downpipe. This is a divorced waste gate design. Because I have an 06 xt I had to use a WRX intermediate ( catt pipe). I also installed a Cobb turbo heat shield to help keep the heat from the little snail contained.

Shortly after was a Perrin Drop in air filter and a Cobb AccessPort V2. For the mods I had Cobb recommended using a OTS Stage2 map. This was a lot of fun!

Its first real winter setup:

First Was the Forester STi Pink spring install.
Comparison of stock rear spring to FSTi Pink

Front wheel gap before

And after

Rear Before

After (Notice the trademark dent on the rear quarter :)

Then came the front Brembos and SS lines
oem 2pots compared to Brembo 4 pots!

Here's my first auto-X. The Forester's were well represented that day! I only had time for four runs but it was a blast! And hanging out with fourortwowheels was a blast! He is an animal thru the cones! Sorry I don't have any action shots. I used the video camera for that stuff.

The mods I put on the weekend before.

Whiteline Rear strut tower brace w/qr

SPT front strut tower brace and Lower H brace

Perrin WRX stout mounts with some aluminum shims

And the event
Still riding on super comfortable HotBits Street coilovers

Pics clipped from a video

Getting strapped down on the dyno for the first time! With approximately 28k on the clock.

Here are the mods added the night before the dyno:

-TGV deletes

-Grimmspeed Phinolic 3mm thermal spacers

-STI intake manifold (gasket matched and ported)
-Samco silicone turbo inlet pipe

-Injen cold air intake
-NGK 0ne step colder plugs( These were a mistake. I think they cost me a good amount of torque)

Here's the story behind the dyno.
The overnight overhaul!

Just before the road course event I installed Tein Wagon GT coilovers with MRT front camber/caster plates. I also installed the super handy EDFC system.
Unfortunately I waited till after a nasty winter to take these under hood shots. zIP hate road salt!

Here's where I stuck the controller.

More to come from my VIR road course weekend!

Here's a pic from the Long Island Forester Meet this winter.

RavSpec/GTSpec meet

The wife and I took a road trip from Long Island NY to Niagra falls in the snow with KUMO SPT summer tires. (Not too smart)
Here's a few shots with 'Duderotomy' on my trip to Niagara falls (Canadian side). He was nice enough to meet up for some pictures and some video gaming. Please excuse the filthy vehicles and fuzzy pictures. It was really cold.

Mod recently installed:

-Rally Armor Urethane mud flaps. I got them nice and dirty right away. These work great!

-WBR EL header w/Cool It Thermotech Copper header wrap.
Here it is the Wrapped WBR next to the STi manifold

This was a bitter sweet mod. The STi manifold made nice power and had the sweet boxer rumble. But at my wife's request I had to make the exhaust a bit quieter. So an equal length header was the obvious choice to quiet things down without giving up any power. The fit and finish of the WBR headers/up pipe was excellent! But Now There's no rumble, rumble.

-Cusco Master cylinder brace

I had a chance to install this on the fozy. The install on an 06 and newer is a bit more complicated. I had to remove the emissions air pump to get to the origonal brackets. After fitting theCusco MC brace in its place, I noticed that the tensioner bolt was in direct obstruction of the rubber hose that connects to the air pump. So I removed the tensioner bolt, measured the length I would need it to be. After finding the proper length I found the proper die and threaded it onto the bolt before cutting. Then cut the bolt with a hack saw and cleaned it up with a fine grit metal file. After that I unscrewed the die which re-threaded the bolt on its way off. Now I was ready to install it on the bracket. It all went to plan.
After all was said and done, I ended up with a slightly firmer brake under normal light braking and a ferry nice feeling pedal under hard braking. Over all I am verry pleased with the results.

6/13/09:
-Finally got tint. I also installed a 02 03 JDM STI hood scoop and removed the ugly Rota emblems from the center caps. Also tried out some 25mm wheel spacers!!
Now I just need to wash her.

Installed -SRP Racing pedals a while back. They replaced my STi pedals and are

pretty nice.

9/6/09
Installed Rota G-Force in Steel Gray 18x9 et35

11/09

Then bought a pair of G-Forces in gold and installed 07-08 Sports tail lights :) I think these are a better match to my color and style

2/6/10
Installed a stiffer spring in the 44mm EWG, so now it opens at 1 bar. Replaced my defective DW850cc injectors with a new set. Went over my dual catch can setup and replaced the zip ties with hose clams. And installed a DriveShaftShop one piece drive shaft.

Mods waiting to be installed 2/12/09:

-RCE Kool Brake duct kit

*- STi intercooler sprayer

*-Group N pitch stop mount-installed!

*-02/03 JDM STi hood scoop-Painted SGM and installed!

*-WBR FMIC-Decided to sell this before it was ever installed
*-STi motor mounts- installed
*-STi transmission mounts- installed!

While waiting to install my own parts, ive been buisy with friend's forester mods:

Galager and Skotcharu - Stage 2

Project "SuperSleeper" will soon be under way!!
Dale and the guys over at MoorePerformance have been putting together a custom setup to meet my fairytale sleeper setup. Below are some of the details:
-Twinscroll rotated uppipe w/merged wastegate flange to a single Tial 44mm ewg and dump tube
-Twinscroll el headers
rotated and internally divided 3" downpipe
-Spearco/esX top mount intercooler heavily modified to a huge side inlet with internal air splitter to evenly divide the charge across the core!
-4" Cold Air Intake with HKS Green filter
And there is more to come! Stay tuned

To make it a true "SuperSleeper" project it utilities a typical tmic located core. Dale has artistic license with the coating colors but I think he is using primarily black with little hints of red. I am planning on re using the stock plastic engine cover and possibly extending it to hide the goodies until I decide to let it show! This of course was inspired by Dales show car and its "think outside the box" theme

Thanks to Dale, Ryan and the rest of the crew at Moore Performance this has become a reality! The pictures speak for themselves.

This is the latest state of modification

Full 06/07 STi drivetrain swap

Read on and see how long and painstaking the road to modification was :)

What do you think you should have gone with? I'm still in the parts collecting phase, and don't want to do anything wrong. I was thinking about the Denso Iridiums, but didn't know whether I should go one step colder than stock or not.

i love your car ken! such a transformation from the first pic!! better put those r888s to work this season!!

btw in regards to plugs - the stock ones are fine for modest turbo upgrades... its really up to what your tuner likes in the end though....

I should have just kept the stock plugs untill I needed an upgrade.
