Got the parts out of the car. 3 pallets! :icon_eek:
The steering shaft/wheel had been removed so I started on the JDM swap. Well the Impreza and Forester shafts are different length's. And mounting brackets are also. I will cut off what I need from the JDM and install on the Forester shaft.
Left is Forester and right is the JDM.
Forester bracket cut off ,next will be to remove the JDM,weld back on.
Are you going to triangulate the back side of the cage? Between the strut tops and the roof line bar? I think you will want to lock down movement there, to keep the floppy chassis from shifting too much!
Seriously, I can't wait to see this foz become a rallyx beast!! I don't think anyone has done a full roll cage in a foz yet!
Ah yes! Apologies, I mistakenly overlooked the specs at the bottom of the sketch!
This should be a really fun build to watch! :icon_biggrin: How long do you think it will take you to complete the project? (caging, panel fab, engine drop/swap)
This should be awesome, I take it you're going more towards the "rally" side of things opposed to the track side? Since they would probably be much different setups? That a Nardi wheel? Nice
I'm also caging my Forester but I don't think I'll be going into the cockpit like you I am trying to keep it semi-comfortable for passengers haha. I'm going to tie the cage into the pillars just behind the front seats for some stability but your idea looks awesome for rigidity. Also I'm thinking about weld in some tubing from the firewall to the front wheel wells like you have drawn on but yours will be tied right into the cockpit which will be sick. I'm just trying to think of the best way to keep maintenance easy it's already super tight in these bays
Their are a lot of things to think about when installing a "cage". I have "NO" air bag system. On the city streets,I have cut my chances by maybe 1/2?
Oh, and my Forester was missing it when I got it! And it will not be a DD!
Most cage systems need the "BEST" seat money can buy! And belts down ,tie! A cage for the street , I just do not know?
My Forester is not for the street except for the odd weekend & meets. The guy doing my cage is a friend and has done many many cages so were going to go over a lot of different designs even though it's not a DD I am factoring in comfort and serviceability into all the things I do. Are you welding up your own cage?
Did some test fitting. Found that the brake buster is bigger on the Forester and has a shorter rod to pedal rod than the Impreza. And a Impreza pedal assy. will not fit. To long at the mounts to the front bulkhead.
Looks great so far, I see a lot of the same things I went through or am going through with mine, but yours will go in a completely different direction. Im excited to see how this turns out.
