CDM HID Level Motors wiring.
I set out this past weekend to make and install a harness for the manual leveling feature on the CDM HID's I picked up last year from duder ( Remington). This task ended up costing me around $75 and 12-hours of time. I am sure I could have accomplished it faster but I prefer to take my time and test things along the way. I started off with a trip to The Home Depot for basics, like wiring in red, black and white and loom and heat shrink tubing. Afer several failed attempts at finding a small enough spare connector for the motors on the lights, I ended up using telephone wire crimp connectors. These were actually a tad too large but slightly crimping them help ensure a solid connection. Per the wiring diagram from Ben at Hodges, I went to work. The lights themself have 3 leads, and from what I could tell it is a +, - , and signal wire. The signal wire is the center, and I made the top of each the + and the bottom wire the - . ![]() ![]() ![]() Here are a few photos of the harness connected to the level motor plugs. I went for an oem look. ![]() ![]() ![]() The dash switch is an OEM part for the forester, with 0-5 selectors. It has 6 leads on it. The two outside leads are for the light bulb. The next two outside leads are for the 12v + and - , and the two center leads are for the signal feeds for the switches. ![]() with advice from 2.5x_sleeper, I sourced my 12v and Illumination leads from the cig/12v source in the console. Refer to this thread for wiring diagrams. http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...-switch-54093/ I will go out this weekend and take measurements of each point with its cut off range and post them as well. thanks for looking.

Several people have asked about the hose set up I am running. Here are a few quick photos of what it looks like with the bumper cover off.

I will add more detail at the request of a few members of the wiring this weekend. Look for more photos.

Getting ready for tonight, I decided to take on the challenge of repainting some items. After several hours in the heat, this will be the last time I do it. Next stop is the powder coaters as I grow tired of painting things.
My morning started off like this ![]() After seeing how well (or not) the brake caliper silver held up, I went onto to cleaning the parts and painting them a different flavor. ![]() ![]() I went with Wrinkle red VHT for the tq members and caliper black for the calipers. ![]()

I was on a roll, and figured why stop there.
I picked up the wheels currently on my XT used from Bobby. He told me they were not mint, but imo, they were pretty dang clean. With me being a guy who likes new looks, I set out to paint them. Results below. ![]() ![]() ![]() You can really see the wrinkle in the red. I did not bake them either and they look good. ![]() ![]()

I like that. I bought a can of VHT header paint in silver (not sure if its wrinkle) as a spare when painting mine with caliper paint. The problem with caliper paint is its only good to 500 degrees and that's intermitant while a caliper (especially mine) can reach 1000 degrees when pushed hard. I burnt the paint off the last set. Next time around I'l use the VHT which I think was good for 1500-2000 degrees intermittant temps.
Did I say the crinkle paint looks great ??!! |
