Hey, Erich, did you have to do any modification to get the Grimmspeed mcb to fit? I'm not seeing any confirmed fitment for our models on either Grimm's page, or TiC's brace. I talked to Tony at TiC and he said the angle for install on my '01 would be off.

Yeah I bought the TiC one and it didn't fit whatsoever. I talked to Tony and the Grimmspeed one is designed for both the GC and GD, so it'll fit both the SF and SG chassis. He exchanged it for me (free) and the Grimmspeed went in trouble free. Great upgrade!

Dang, all your hoses are so much cleaner than mine. I degrease the bay often, but i guess old parts will be old parts.

I degreased the bay and dressed it. The camera on my phone doesn't nearly do it justice, it looks great.

How deadly would it be to run staggered tires on my car?

225/45/17 fronts
245/40/17 rears

tire size calc says they're 1% different (.3" diameter). I'm thinking this could be similar to running new tires on the fronts and bald tires on the rear of the same size?

Why would you want to? .3" diameter is still more than allowable based on the owner's manual.

i would be very careful around trying to run different sizes like that. Id try to stay the same, either 40 series or 45 series all around. You can go as thin or fat as you want otherwise, front to back, width wise.

I dont have any proof to back this up with at the time being, but logic tells me that if your getting slightly more RPMs on ones side more than the other in an all wheel vehicle, thats stress, in any way shape or form, on the drivetrain differentials. Maybe someone else can chime in?

245 for a snow tire is silly. You want a balanced tire - something wide enough to get traction but also something narrow enough to get enough weight on the provided contact patch to utilize all the grip available in the rubber compound. You want the tire to drop down into the snow and grab at the solid stuff not "float" on top of the powder.

I'd stick with 225 all around.

IIRC, you aren't getting any benefit out of a staggered set up after 1st gear anyways; the diffs transfer most of the power up front until a corner slips.

^^

I'm not asking in an attempt for performance gains, it's merely an option of what's currently available. It's not ideal to me either, I would want 205-225 all around for snow, but I just happened to find the two separate pairs of 225 and 245.

Well...the sidewall is merely a percentage of the width. So a 225/45 has a sidewall that is 45% of 225mm. A 245/40 has 40% of 245mm. A 225/45 vs a 245/45 is going to be a pretty significant difference.

I think I will just wait and find a matching set.

Worst case, if both sets are used, you would have to measure them and if too far out of spec, shave the taller pair.

You are right on trying to change the % to match the side wall heights. There is just too much of a difference for the differentials to safely compensate for.

I know your pain, trying to find tires this late in the season. I'd let you wear out my 215/45R17 snows from my Mazda3, if you were closer.

What is your price range?
These look good.
Subaru WRX Artic Cat 235/45R17 Studded snow tires

I'd be careful on these, mine are about this worn. I didn't feel sure-footed when I last ran them two seasons ago. Although, I would like a sent of RS wheels... ;)

Sweet finds! My price range is only about $300 right now, it's unfortunate. And I gotta have 17's to clear my Brembos; I already have a set of wheels for them.
