Notice - with the recent site upgrade, my Member Journals have been seriously messed up! The "Table of Contents" links are "hit or miss," but the posts can still be located by the "Post #" shown on the link.
The Table of Contents for my Member Journal can be found on ► Post #124. This thread keeps growing, so to make it easier to navigate (skip over the chitchat), I added a Table of Contents with links to the main posts.

Thank you for taking the time to look over my Member Journal, or MODding Journal, as I call it (literary license). Your comments, questions, or suggestions are always welcome. Post them here or send me a PM.

June 29, 2009 - The beginning!

First, thanks to Ian, @Arthrogrian19, for helping me find my next project, Forester. I'd been looking for over a year for my next project, Forester. It's way newer than I wanted; I had my heart set on a low-mile '04 XT. Of course, I spent more than my budgeted amount, but who could pass on a low-mileage '07 Forester Sports XT in WRB!

After contacting the seller for details, with check in hand, my son & I drove up to Shoreline, WA (North of Seattle, WA) to look over the Forester. The Forester was parked in my driveway before dark!

The '07 FSXT is not perfect, being preowned, but with just a bit over 21K miles, it still smells like new (detail spray?) & runs perfectly. It's 100% stock, with the exception of a set of Kumho tires the dealership just installed.

I wanted to get more pictures, but the camera batteries died & the backup set let us down. :frown:

Okay, on to the pictures, with me thinking... what to do first! Perhaps that should be what to do second since I just ordered a set of floor mats from Jackie, @SubaruPartsGirl, a supporting vendor here on the forum.

Bobby...
Below are the first pictures of the Forester taken at the dealership.

Here's how my retirement project looks now! You'll have to look over my Member Journal for all the details.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, I already noticed chips on a couple, but still... I like the additional blue that they add to my XXR wheels!

I'm keeping an eye on the McGard with the blue caps to replace the Gorilla lug nuts. Perhaps I can find them on sale... :icon_eek:

I bought an 07 XT Sport in January this year and have been all over this forum these last months. I’ve completed a number of things on my wish list and thought I’d offer up some appreciation and thanks. I’ve replaced the stock cloth seats with one-piece wrx fronts and stock rear, all reupholstered in leather. Also put in new carpet, window gussets, blue tooth radio, Redline leather covers for shifter, e-brake and armrest. Changed out the rear door cards and the fronts were off for the gussets so I went ahead and removed the cargo bay floor and side trim panels before slapping sound deadener all about. Also put StopTech pads all around.

By way of saying thanks I thought I’d drop this into all the threads I used. You guys provided a great service to me by shining a light and clearing the path ahead for me, showing me what steps to take and pointing out pitfalls. Thanks.

Silke pointed me over to Peaty on ScoobyMods for the Redline stuff so I’ll get over there also.

thanks, Bobby, both seats swap and radio

Thanks for compliment!

I'm still running a COBB Accessport stock dyno protune map & my Forester is a blast to drive!

If I can finish up my house repair projects, I'll have time to install the VF48 & get some real performance gains! :icon_eek:

Yes, I removed the pointed end on the trim so the cable could pass thru. You want the opening large enough so the cable isn't pinched when the trim is installed. The cable should be tight, but should be loose enough to push in or pull out a bit if needed, once the cable is connected to the Scangauge II.

So I ended up placing it in the same spot as you but mounted slightly differently. I didn't want to do any cutting if avoidable.

I routed the cable under the left side of the dash, up to the base of the windshield where the A-pillar and dash trim come together. There's a decent sized gap there. I then secured the cable down into the gap between the A-pillar and dash trim and into the back connector on the ScanGauge. I cut a flat piece of plexiglass (no L-shape) a bit shorter than the length of the gauge, and about 2" deep. That became the shelf, and I blacked out the edges with a Sharpie and pushed it into the trim gap as you did.

Then I placed the SG on top of that, securing it with velcro. The cord is only slightly visible behind the SG and it seems quite secure. Now I need to take it for a test drive!

Thanks for your help and ideas.

I can understand not wanting to make any cuts to the instrument panel trim. Your installation looks very functional!

Thank you for the compliment!

My part number won't help you, as it would be for WRB, World Rally Blue... unless that's the color you want?

I bought my set from Jackie, SubaruPartsGirl here on the forum. You can view her inventory here.

I bought my set from Jackie, @SubaruPartsGirl here on the forum. She's a forum supporting vendor & a parts wiz! Her direct number at Annapolis Subaru is (866) 509-3019.

Tell her you're a forum member as she gives us a discount!

More information on my '08 Sports tail light can be found here on my installation write up.

McGard wheel installation kit!

Today was my Birthday... # 64, but I stopping counting years ago! :icon_eek:

Bobby...

This is the card my son gave me.

I wanted a set of McGard lug nuts last year, but I went with painted Gorilla lug nuts. Now I have what I really wanted!

The plan is to install these in the Spring when the weather starts to dry out. Of course here in Oregon, it may be Summer before the rains let up!

Bobby,
I was reading, with great interest, your posts about the spoiler install. It looks great. Its hard to tell from the angle, does it have the third brake light?
Looking at images on eBay, etc. I think I know which one you have. The pics on eBay are not great but it looks like the transition from hatch to spoiler are not very smooth, ie., the spoiler appears to sit a bit high. Is that the case? Still happy with it? any noticeable wind noise? And if you don't mind me asking, who was the vendor?
thanks...

Thanks for taking the time to look thru my Member Journal.

The stock spoiler... '03-'07 didn't come with the LED brake light. That come on the '08 FSXT spoiler. Take a look here at Andy's, @Smooth here on the forum, '08 FSXT spoiler installed on his '07 FSXT.

I like! Wasn't sure the 08 would fit. Found several on eBay (from Hong Kong or the likes, with a 2 week delivery - the literal slow boat from China) for stupid-cheap. Makes me a bit concerned about quality and fitment. But since its so cheap...
I think the Fossy looks bare w/o the wing.
Thanks for the response and tip.

There can be differences between countries, as in, what radio frequencies are are allowed to be used for the fob/transmitter. If you buy a transmitter outside of the country you live in, make sure it will work.

Bobby,

Let me run an idea by you. When we swapped the Forester, we swapped the ignitions, ECU, etc to a different year resulting in different keys. I only have 1 key for the car currently. If I were to order and have the 1 piece key/fob above cut, could I use one of my old keys chips and have my dealer program the chip to match my other keys?
