For frequent oil changes (no longer than 3750) with synthetic oil and with the desire to make getting oil filters as painless as possible, would you go with the Fram or the Wix? The Beck/Arnley seems like it is probably better than either, but harder to get and quite a bit more moolah if it has to be ordered...
Thanks, Doug |

+1. I've been using Wix for tens of thousands of miles on my 04 and 05 XT's, my old tuner in New Mexico recommended them (and he has a 700hp STi track car), as well as my local tuner up here recommends them as well.

What they said.
WIX 57712, Napa gold 7712. Unlike the WIX 51365(8-11psid) the Wix 57712 was specifically built by WIX for Subaru applications and has the correct bypass valve pressure of 23psid. |

Hello,
I am getting close to the warranty being out on my Sub. So since I have to drive 1 1/2 hours to the Subaru Dealer to get my oil changed I figured I'd start doing it myself. The dealership is trying to tell me that if I don't use Subaru filters that I will have problems with my vehicle? Is that true or are they just trying to make money?

Subaru filters are rebadged Honeywell, so I've heard. Any other filters you want to use should meet the high Subaru bypass pressure specification. No, you shouldn't have any problems running other brand oil filters.

I buy whatever popular brand is on sale...between Purolator, Bosch, and Fram. I've done all the oil changes myself and my car is near 60k miles. No leaks, no issues. Oil goes in clean, comes out kind of not clean at 5000 miles. It's pretty routine.
Don't buy into that BS the dealer sells you. I understand making money and I have no problems with that, but nothing loses my business quickly like scare tactics. |

There is a importance of a filter meeting the correct bypass spec. Besides OEM, there are only a couple of aftermarket options that do meet the 23.2PSID bypass spec.

Would any of these fit better with UEL headers, or will they all work? I was pretty uninformed when I bought my filter a while back and need to change it over to one of these ASAP.

There are small size differences between brands, depending on the header some may fit better than others.

The header is just a borla UEL rep, pretty standard. Any idea which of these filters is the smallest? Going to look for all the ODs now, but if anyone happens to know off hand that would be great.
EDIT: Found what I was looking for. Thanks flstffxe for putting this all together. Looks like the Beck/Arnley one is the best bet. Anyone know if it's fine for a 2001?

It will do just fine. Subaru has superceeded the filters for the EJ engines to the smaller filter now. Not all the aftermarkets have made the same change, but you're still good to go.
