Just my personal opinion but I would say the asking price is a little high.
I bought one exactly the same as yours, 54 plate but 2005MY so later dash etc in February. It had Full Subaru History, mint but done 120k ( now on 138k ) so slightly higher mileage. Paid £3250

But since we are now on that, what does everyone else think? To the forum regulars, what's the going rate for a 2004 (2005MY) 2.5 XT with Prodrive, good condition, 97k, full history, low tax band, manual, full Leather and Sat Nav? Cam belt done. Just serviced and MOT'd. Cheapest 2.5 currently on Autotrader is £4500. I would have thought the Prodrive pack helped the value. I certainly paid more for one with it as it makes a big difference to the power. I'm going to stick in on Autotrader soon. Personally I thought £4500 was cracking value. (I paid 5.5 just over a year ago). What does everyone think? |

Price it to sell or be prepared to look at it out of your window for a few more months.. I would give you 4k for it if I was in the market..

Take a look here- Subaru Forester Estate 2.5 XT 5d (04) 2004/54 used car prices | Parkers Your has higher mileage but PPP so I reckon that would equal out. The forester is a great car but has a very limited market which will reflect the value. |

I think you should offer at a price that you feel happy with, but be prepared to drop if you get no interest. I would have also suggested checking ebay for prices that your approx model and year actually has sold for recently, but there doesn't appear to be many.
On the plus side, the car seems quite rare, so it gives you a chance to be firm on price so long as you don't need to sell quickly. Personally i think about £4k feels about right, which seems ridiculously low, but then again the car is 7-8 years old now, nearly 100k on the clock, and big engine cars that drink petrol are not overly popular thanks to the manipulation of oil prices and heavy tax duty.

I'm still trying to get into forester ownership (almost there, fingers crossed) and I've been checking autotrader almost daily for about 6 weeks (sad perhaps but its all part of the homework I do whenever I spend a chunk of cash).
I haven't been around long enough to know what people think they're worth but I know that the ones that were listed on autotrader for what I considered too much are still there since the first time I checked. Some are absolutely crazy priced but the private owners/dealers dont seem to be prepared to drop the price. They all say "winter is coming" but Id wager theyll still be on their driveways/forecourts after the snow has come and gone. I can see what the other guys are thinking - you can either try and get the extra 500 and be prepared to wait, and then still have a buyer haggle with you IF they turn up then ultimately let it go...or just take the hit and price it lower, appeal to more people in the autotrader search criteria and shift it more quickly, pretty much getting the full advertised price. However, I also think it comes down to your personal circumstances and what you need from the sale. Best of luck with the sale mate. |

Hi,
Thanks for the replies and apologies for the poor spelling! I'd always expect a bit of haggling. So I suppose it may go down towards the 4k mark. But I'm in no rush to sell. If it is worth less than 4k then I'll just keep a bit longer. It only gets used for about 7k a year so the fuel cost is not that much. Cheers |

Selling on Autotrader vs a forum is simple to my mind.
On a forum you're dealing with people who know the score generally. If you put it up for £4k and it is worth that it will sell for it. If you put it up for £4k on Autotrader and it is worth it you'll still get people taking the piss as they assume the price is more than you're prepared to take. As far as I can tell, that's the game! |

If it was me, I'd wait until the snow hits, then ask for £5000 - But I'm a tight ***

Theres a guy in the Subaru section of pistonhead looking for a imprezza wagon with PPP on so might be worth dropping him an email.
As for price, leave it as is and if no nibbles in a few weeks, drop it down by £250 or so. If your only advertising on here, then your target market wont be that big |

I just got a 2.0xt for my dad,54plate with fsh and 60k on the clock. The dealer wanted£4895 and i offered to take it off his hands as it was, sold as seen without warranty and got it for £3600 .Its always worth a bit of banter with a dealer.
