So, pretty typical story. Discovered the forum a year ago, and I've been enthusiastically wandering around the maze of information.
My first car was a Subaru Legacy (Alpine Sport Edition, which sounds like it was some exotic European Alpina rally car, but really it just meant that I had a couple of seat heaters). I've always loved off-roading, so I had hoped to inherit my dad's 4Runner, but in an unfortunate twist of fate, it got sold while I was out of the country for a few years. Short story long, my mom got a 2008 Forester X Sports with 30,000 miles on it. Soon my parents wanted something with a bit better gas mileage (apparently 19 mpg around town wasn't good enough for them), so they got a Prius. In the ensuing car chaos, I claimed the Forester as my own.![]() There it sits as I received it - my bone-stock 2008 Fishbowl. I always knew I loved Subarus, but in the back of my mind, I still knew I wanted to eventually buy a 4Runner or Tacoma. ![]() But the more I drove it, I realized how amazing Foresters are. It took me everywhere I wanted to go, with a much more fun ride and at least marginally better gas mileage. ![]() Thus, my plans to buy a traditional 4x4 have been shelved and I am very much enjoying myself. I'm living in Salt Lake City now, and the Forester's taken me all over, from Skull Canyon in Idaho to Moab and Canyonlands. This was out in abandoned mine country in the west desert. Utah's got so many good trails, I think I'm gonna die. ![]() ![]() The only thing I don't like about it now are the all-season tires, which is really just a personal problem. Just throwing on the standard mods at first - picked up a Yakima basket, spare tire carrier and full-size spare for about $190 total. And a much-needed tint job (35% up front and 20% all around the back - legal in Idaho, but perhaps not in Utah? That's why you keep your cars registered in Idaho - no safety or emissions inspections!) ![]() Also picked up some RokBlokz mudflaps - the dude lives in my area - and I've been way impressed with em. You all know the list of upcoming mods: I'm in desperate need of a skidplate, then some better tires, then some ironman springs, then some subtle lift blocks, and hopefully the Yakima Loadwarrior extension. Maybe some auxiliary lighting, and then I might call it good! Luckily for me, I was able to find a wife who also loves herself a good forester - and she supports all the mods. (Except for red mudflaps - gotta do some persuading. )![]() And of course, I had to do a quick mockup on photoshop to see if I'd like black wheels. Any suggestions? I think it looks sick. I'll be painting my motorcycle wheels in a week or two, so I might do the Foz wheels at the same time. AND I gotta get that dang PZEV sticker off. Sorry you had to sit through all that. Thanks for listening. |
