Yesterday, I went driving with a friend of mine on some state owned land that he has access to. At best, the roads were gravel, with small ruts, but some of the roads were mud, dirt, rocks, logs, large ruts...any/all of the above. I'm not gonna lie, the Forester well exceeded my expectations...my only concern was ground clearance. Still, even in that department, she still did pretty well. She forded a creek about 2 1/2 feet deep and 30 or 40 feet across and climbed a pretty steep hill about 120 yards long on a "road" no more than about 8 feet wide with some pretty hairy rocks. I think I might be investing in a skidplate one of these days, because like I said, ground clearance was the only thing that really had me worried.
This will definitely not be my last time off the beaten path. PS I was thoroughly satisfied with the fact that in one afternoon with my AWD Subaru Forester, I accomplished more off road than 95% of Hummer H2 owners ever will. BWAHAHAHAHA!!! |

Congratulations! Fun isn't it?
I was actually doing a bit of off-roading today as well. I still haven't tried the submarine powers of the Subaru yet though.

This is a stock Forester running in the 2 1/2 feet deep of water?!?
This has been my only concern with my Fozzie. Well, I take that back; Ground clearance tops that list!

Wow. That's over 3/4 of a metre deep - half way up the top half of the two-tone doors. That's hit-a-bump-and-float-away sort of stuff. That's over-the-bonnet-and-into-the-turbo-scoop-at-crawling-speed material. (Even when you have next to no bow wave it's going to wash over the top.) That's slow-down-and-suck-water territory. (Unless you've got a snorkel.) And you said first time out? I'm really impressed, but honestly,
