I guess you need to know if you are planning to upgrade/mod anything or not.
If you just need a nimble, quick and ideal runabout car save the $$$ and get the WRX. If you are gonna mod the crap out of it, the STi is the better platform in which to do so.

I would check the owner' service records, insurance cost....bwah ha ha STI!!!
Actually, my good buddy has that same '08 STI...he is pretty finicky about cars, always has a new one...but has kept that one for several years now. That says alot about it. He said it is a "maintenance *****", but he still loves it. And seriously, I would not consider one without a good service history...but, I want one for the long term...so, I want it to be well taken care of mechanically. Probably can not go too wrong either way if both are sound cars. I was reading up on these the other day...the 2011 WRX was just as fast in a straight line as the STI up until about 100....I can look up the numbers if you want. They were in Motor Trend and Car and Driver, I believe. Good luck!

STi, no question about it. Only reason to get the WRX IMO is if you can't afford an STi.

Don't think you can turn a WRX into an STi for anywhere near the amount you saved by buying a WRX.

It's crazy to see how the newer GR WRXs now cost as much as the older GD STi back when they were brand new.
I would go with the STi. |

Newer WRXs are a still a great value, and they look very aggressive and have a lot of power. STi is not about power, it's about putting that power down to the wheels in a much more controlled fashion (better diffs, DCCD, stronger tranny), and the Brembos are nice. WRX is an excellent street car, but an STi is also an excellent street car AND a great track car.

Get the STi if you can. I have both Subaru 5MT and 6MT and the transmission and diffs alone are worth it.
