This is probably in the wrong spot, but I couldn't think of a better place to put it
I don't know if any of you saw in DRIVE magazine about Subaru's all electric vehicle, the R1e, based off of the R1 currently sold in Japan. It is supposed to have a range of 50 miles on a charge, and can do a "quick" charge to 80% in 15 min. I was curious what other people thought of this ![]()

I saw it but didn't get a chance to read it. I would be interested in having it as a commuting on car for work if I had the space to put it. Is there a link for an online version of the story?

It was a good article and it would be great for someone like me who commutes short distances to mass transit centers.
Maybe when miles per gallon become more important than smiles per gallon I'd get something like that.

I'm the same a. 8-10miles each way to the rain station! I like the fact that 80% of the charge or 40 miles can be had in 15mins so even if you forget to charge overnight you can do it the next morning.

While I just thought it was interesting, most notably, I thought Subaru didn't care about "going green"!
When I saw that, it made me feel a lot better! Subaru R1e to Begin Testing for Potential U.S. Sales | Autopia from Wired.com Subaru's Electric Car On Sale Next Year | Subaru Auto Newss | Automobile.com Subaru Unleashes R1e Electric Car on New York : Gas 2.0 Knowing how Subaru is always slow to adapt and to change, it is intriguing that they too are getting in on the race! Now an electric vehicle that is AWD! I can't wait! (However, I feel that the R1e will not be AWD, but that will be FINE by me as it will be used for quick commutes! That's why I'll still have my Forester! I did some searching on Google and found out that Subaru has been keeping secrets! :gasp: They have been planning concepts of electric vehicles for a while now: Subaru Hybrid Electric Vehicles and the Quest for Electric Power I don't know why Subaru would keep things like this in the dark!

Subaru is testing its first full electric micro car, the R1e, in the streets of New Yrok, and they want to know your opinion.
I said: "As long as the R1e has all wheel drive and the batteries are arranged in a boxer fashion (!!!), I like this car". Subaru.com: Electric Subaru on the Streets of New York Go to the bottom of the page to send your opinion. ![]() (MODS: thanks for moving this, I actually searched for "Subaru Electric Vehicle" before posting but didn't find this, I sould have searched for R1e...) Subaru's plant was the first "zero landfill" plant in the US. Subaru has always been on the forefront og automotive greenness. I believe Honda and Toyota took the lead with the hybrid technology due to extra money for R&D, but I also think Subaru does not buy into the greenness of hybrids, as the production of batteries for hybrid vehicles pollutes a lot too. Pure electrical vehicles are the way Subaru is doing it, and as new battery technologies are deeloped we will see more electrical cars in our roads, Subaru amongst them.

The R1e likely will not be sold here as the Subaru mini cars are all short timers now that Toyota has bought more heavily into Subaru. They've already stated that future Subaru mini cars will be re-badged, Toyota-owned, Daihatsu models.
