White is an easier color to match up for scratches dents etc and any repairs to a Silver car will always be able to be detected because of the way in which the light reflected from the paint.
A paintless dent removal guy (long time in the panel beating game as well) who took some door dings out of my current Forester last year, told me it doesn't matter how long and meticulous he is with the dent removal you can always detect the repaired area.
I've had Gunmetal Grey - Yellow - Summer Gold - White - Blue Ice - Red Mica colored cars over the years and the worst to keep sparkling clean was the Subaru Red Mica and the easiest was the Whites and I lived in the coastal tropics where there was mud and dust in periods 3mths & 9mths respectively, yes! it can be dusty in the coastal tropics believe it or not.
White everytime for me when possible, boring I know but much easier to maintain all round.
