I'd have to agree. Using the soap and water would be a much safer approach, especially on a dirty car. That way the dirt has a much better chance of floating away in the suds. Detailing spray is probably very similar to the water-less car wash. I've been successful at spraying the car down with the detail spray (when it's dusty) and that produces a great shine w/o all the effort of breaking out the hose, etc. But of course, you can't beat a good hand wash and wax :-)
