I use a wheel cleaner (I think its Meguiars), but do not leave it on long, and do not use it on hot wheels or wheels that have been in the sun. Sometimes it takes multiple applications, and
always takes rubbing to get the wheel totally clean. Simple Green works, but I don't think it is nearly as effective as wheel cleaners.
